Collaborator: Apiday

Materiality is a key concept in the sustainability world. It basically means prioritising the ESG areas that are of greatest importance to your organisation. Why does this matter? Well, it is crucial to not only hold yourself accountable and make sure that you focus on the right areas but also help steer resources. Few organisations can or should focus on all ESG areas at once. Instead, knowing where to start and where to go second is key - especially in the start-up world.

For us as a generalist VC with 80+ companies in the portfolio, we needed to ensure this prioritisation was being made on a portfolio level. To this end, we chose to collaborate with our sustainability platform supplier - **Apiday** - to develop an analysis of priority sustainability issues by industry, following a double materiality approach. Here, we asked Apiday to describe their methodology in greater detail, so that more can build off their work.
