Overview
Several initiatives to the state health policies to reduce the spread of the disease and put less pressure on the healthcare system as follows:
- The qualifying day will be discontinued in that the central government will pay sickness benefit for the first day of sickness
- The government will assume the responsibility for sick leave pay
- Less important: the appropriation for the disease carrier allowance will be increased
Qualifying day
- The qualifying day is discontinued
- This means that people will get paid sick leave from day 1 that they are at home
- This will be paid for by the the Swedish Social Insurance Agency (Sw. Försäkringskassan), not the employer
- The company does not have to do anything, the employer applies for the reimbursement from Försäkringskassan themselves
- From 11 March to 31 May 2020
- All employees in Sweden in any company are eligible for this
Sick leave pay
- The Swedish state will assume all costs for all sick leave pay during a period of two months: 1 April to 31 May 2020
- Sick leave pay is the pay for during the first 14 days of sick leave
- This is typically paid for by employers, but it will during the period mentioned above be paid for by the state
