Disperse is a leader in AI-powered construction transformation solutions. The company’s technology digitises and processes visual data from a construction site and transforms it into actionable information that empowers every level of a construction organisation. Northzone partnered with Disperse in 2019.

Disperse has calculated their footprints for 2021 and 2022. The main reasons for doing so were:

1. They see sustainability as being a positive force for the world. Addressing carbon emissions is a key driver behind the Disperse technology as it helps businesses construct more efficiently.

2. The company wants to be able to set realistic and tangible targets to work against.

3. New regulation coming out and Disperse wants to get in to the rhythm of measuring.

4. Identifying emissions intensive practices within Disperse’s operations that can be a proxy for OPEX intensity

Disperse carbon footprint was calculated with the help of Normative and can be seen below:

Main learnings

• The process was much smoother than expected, especially the second time. Practice (and knowing what is your Scope 3) makes perfect.
• The process itself was very educational and came also to benefit the business model development at Disperse.
• Most Disperse emissions are in Scope 3 and hence, one of the biggest impact that Disperse can have is to be an active purchaser and to have informed discussions with their suppliers.
• VCs can be of great support in this process by encouraging, facilitating and sharing references. In this case - 2150 - who are also investors in Disperse promoted the carbon footprint process.

Next steps

• Disperse is now working to develop a pathway to achieving net zero building off their emissions baseline
